Tremors from a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Nepal were felt in Delhi-NCR and in several North Indian areas, including parts of Bihar, on Tuesday early morning. Considering the strong tremors in Bihar, people were found standing outside their houses and apartments. So far, nothing has been reported in terms of property damage.
Nepal is an earthquake-prone region, situated within the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, giving rise to the Himalayas.
Lobuche lies in Nepal, east of Kathmandu, close to the Khumbu Glacier. Lobuche is some 150 km away from the capital and 8.5 kilometers southwest of Everest Base Camp.
Xizang was identified as the earthquake’s epicenter.
Nepal and India’s emergency-response teams are keeping a close watch on the situation following the earthquake. The government has requested everyone to stay calm and ready for any aftershocks. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 6:35 am (IST) at 28.86 degrees in latitude north and 87.51 degrees longitude east with a depth of 10 km. The tremor was found to occur in Xizang (Tibetan Autonomous region), near Nepal.
